John Clark Qualities

After Reading the book excellent 11 by John Clark, I have a better understanding about the roles and responsibilities of a teacher. The eleven qualities mentioned in the book intermingle with each other. It is like making a cake from scratch; all the ingredients need to be present in order to obtain the desirable result. The qualities enthusiasm, adventure, creativity, reflection, balance, compassion, confidence, humor, common sense, appreciation, and resilience have help John Clark to become a great teacher and an excellent role model for new teachers. My desire is to become a competent teacher. I consider myself to be compassionate, adventurer, and resilient, but I know there are other areas like I need to work on. Sometimes I do thing that my body is not quiet equip to do anymore so I end up getting hurt. However, my goal is to lose weight so I can have more energy and the agility needed to work with my students. I don’t want to tell the students what to do; I want to show them how to do it! John Clark described an event when he took his students on a field trip to the sand dunes at Nags Head. He and the students went up to the top of a sand hill then he and other student slid down the hill, then the others students followed after them. Children are adventurers and they enjoy when their teachers are part of it. I would like to go on hiking field trips and be able to hike along with them as I teach them about nature. Adventure goes hand in hand with creativity, as teachers, we need to make lessons fun and productive and seek different ways on maintaining students engage and interested on the lessons. The way and style a teacher decorates their classroom can describe a teacher’s personality. It is harder for me to deal with adults than with children. I tend to take things personal, and I also tend to be stubborn and frank on my opinions. I usually reflect on my mistakes after the fact: I don’t like that. I wish I could manage my feelings in a more professional way. I am different with the students though, they know when it comes to learning time I expect their full attention. It is easy to get frustrated when students do not listen or obey instructions, but we need to remember that most students who display bad behavior come from neglected parents or from a bad environment. As a teacher, I would like to take the time to become familiar with each one of my student’s background and their personal interests. This would help me to be more patient and understanding during difficult situations. I need to be more tolerant and adaptable to other adults’ opinions because a teacher cannot do things alone; therefore, it is important to get along with everyone. Ron Clarks stated that importance to say “no” when teachers are being asked to do too much. Sharing the load is essential in order to keep balance and teachers should have the courage to say no when administration is asking too much of them. I would definitely keep this into consideration. Excellet 11 is a book that I’m planning to keep as a guide. My goal as a teacher is to work on those eleven qualities as the time goes

Situational Framework The Article “What Makes Good Early childhood Teachers” by Sally Cartwright writes about how she traveled New Zealand and met other teachers as she visited five kindergartens. During her trip she conversed with other teachers from New Zealand and they came to the conclusion that both American and New Zealand schools struggle to obtain first-rate teachers. The class I have for Practical Experience Placement (PEP) is year 4. The school is located in a low socio-economic area. It has been indicated that there is “evidence that stress and inconsistency within the family, often originating in the external environment, have disruptive effects on children’s development.” (Bronfenbrenner, U. 1999, p23)The students appear to not care much about their learning. This class consists of 26 pupils.…

Each student is different and some students have so much potential, but they are not given enough attention to reach it. When you find what that student is interested in and can relate to them in some way it opens up so many doors to their learning and your teaching. If I could take all of the teachers that can teach and put them into one single person that would be how I want to teach and manage my classroom. I think it would be amazing if I could get all of my students to leave whatever is bothering them that day outside and have their full attention, but the chances of that happening are low.…

As a child I was different, I waited for the weekends to be over, since once the weekdays started I entered my favorite environment, the classroom. For my entire life I have wanted to be a teacher, I feel the order and success that the classroom promotes. My teachers taught me more than basic education, they taught me that it is a teachers role to help students learn to live in the real world, and obey the system that is put there for their benefit. My passion exploded when I was adopted by the vice-principle of the local middle school. I have been blessed to spend time with him and see the interworking’s of a school, and how they impact children’s lives in ways nobody else can do.…

The two I have worked under were inspiring leaders who worked diligently to lead the teachers on the missions they declared for the school.
