Louise did not want to be married. Kate Chopin made Louise seem cold-hearted from her calm attitude and selfish tendency to think of herself and freedom when her husband has just passed away. To me Louise was not cold-hearted I believe she was put in a situation society forced her to be in. Louise prefers to be free, because freedom last forever, and as the story shows love and relationships don 't. Louise was not evil; she was repressed because she was living a life that was chosen for her not a path she chose for herself. She finds marriage to be oppressive because in that date of time the relationship was not as they are today. Women did everything and yes the men worked but they worked and expected to a hot meal on the table as soon as they got home. Sad to say but Louise did not have happiness until her husband 's passing. Though her husband was a good man, married life just was not for Louise. She was frustrated with life, at one point Chopin considered Louise 's weeping as "A storm of grief."
Ironic how this sad story takes place during the prettiest time of year Spring time. The fresh scent of blooming flowers, and the captivating scenery of colors. Kate Chopin provokes this time as sad. Delicious rain as Louise thought of as being refreshing because though it may be raining, after the rain meant a fresh start. The rain is her husbands ' tragic death, but her freedom is the fresh start.
