The Role Of Traumatic Brain Injury In Special Education

Every year in the United States 700,00 children endure a head injury and these injuries place the children at risk for many challenges such as behavioral, cognitive, and academic. Although traumatic brain injury has been a ruling in special education for 25 years only a small percentage actually qualifies to receive those services. This article states that educators admit that they lack the knowledge and skills to work with students who have TBI because there is limited training and inadequate preparation. Even special education textbooks with 500 pages only average about 10 pages about TBI, so there is just not very much information out there about the subject. A survey about TBI was given to different teachers who had different years
