Being a Senior in high school can be a very difficult time for some people, you aren’t quite an adult, yet you don’t get all the privileges and adult does. Fighting with your parents about certain topics can lead to constantly getting the line “back in my day”. This can usually result in the teen throwing a fit saying that their parents’ don’t “get it”. Take a look back and you realize that they too went through the same things as you, but some things have changed from the 1980’s to now. Just the factor of time has changed the senior experience greatly since the 1980’s to 2016. Things like new technology, social media, and just the fact of it being a different time in our society, but there will always be some similarities because teenagers …show more content…
There’s many ways that things have become stricter in the past 40 years. It wasn 't till 1985 that the drinking age was changed to 21, which means that there was some high school seniors in the 1980’s who were able to purchase and consume alcohol legally while they were still in high school. It use to be typical for Senior to “haze” the incoming freshman that year, with some actions being harmful to the ones getting hazed. Although you will see some schools these days getting away with it or keeping it simple, but the consequences for hazing can be major. Schools today have become more strict now. Most schools now have to have ID’s to get in the school and it’s becoming more and more common to have locked internet, only letting students on certain sites. With awful incidents like school shooting has led to schools taking a lot more safety precautions. More strict policies isn 't always a downside, a lot of them make a senior experience safer. Some programs and classes that senior were able to take have been cut from schools from budget cuts. Things like ITV and online classes were not available 40 years ago though. Some schools offer taking individual online classes through a college for one of your classes during the day. This is making it so a high school senior could graduate with enough credit hours to add up to a semester of college or even more. Cheating as also became easier for Seniors now, having a phone during a test could lead you to all the answers. There’s sites today that make it possible to copy on almost every assignment as well, which before this seniors sometimes went the old route of just seeing if any fellow classmates had the assignment done and if they could copy, this tradition still continues to live on, don’t worry. Scholarships are a huge part of a today’s seniors last year, finding certain ones has became easier with the use of the internet and helpful websites. A huge change is how much it costs to attend a traditional college now versus 40 years ago, tuition has skyrocketed.
No matter what time period you grew up in, there will hopefully always be some similarities in a Senior’s experience. Of course how the Senior personally choose to spend it will cause differences. Time will always change the Senior experience. Fast forward another 40 years and there will be completely new differences between seniors in the
