In the tragic play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, the Three Witches are fully responsible for the downfall of Macbeth. The Witches set out to destroy him and make his life miserable. They do this for absolutely no reason other than for their own enjoyment. This shows the evilness of the witches and how they have no conscience or anything to stop them from doing horrible things, which ultimately turns Macbeth from a strong and respected man to a monstrous and feared one. The witches influence Macbeth’s thoughts and control his free will.
The forces in Macbeth are known as the Weird Sisters. These Witches set out to destroy Macbeth from the very beginning. Their power manages to turn well-respected and liked Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis, to a hated and feared king. In Act II Scene III, Macbeth and Banquo run into the witches. The Third Witch tells Macbeth that he, “shalt be King, hereafter!” (Act I, Scene III). This is where the seed is planted in Macbeth’s mind to kill King Duncan to make himself the king, the thought possesses Macbeth’s mind until eventually, he kills Duncan leading to a series of unfortunate events, which turn Macbeth’s life upside down.
