There were 2 sides in the American Revolution. The Patriots, who fought for their independence as a country, and the Loyalists, who stayed loyal to Britain during the war. The Patriots won. Life for the Loyalists in the Thirteen Colonies became dangerous. The Patriots would usually harass and attack the Loyalists, as the Loyalists were seen as traitors. They could have their homes taken away from them anytime. Whoever publicly spoke about their loyalty to Britain had a big possibility of being feathered (when hot tar is poured on them and then are covered in feathers).
