The Role Of The Collectivist Society In Ayn Rand's Anthem

In the book, Anthem it describes the idea of a collectivist society in which there is no individual within society where the main character, Equality 7-2521, tests the limits of the government to help the world. During this time, the government controls all aspects of life from the jobs people can have, how much education, where they may search, and who they may speak to. Whereas in the speech it shows the perspective of a man setting up the government and their corrupt ways to get men to join the collectivist society. Within the short novel, Anthem, and the speech “A Soul of a Collectivist” in the book The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, it describes the idea of a collectivist society where there is no individual within society, which explains how these concepts affect society. For example, both civilizations want equality for all. They do this by having jobs assigned by the government that will benefit it as a whole. For instance in the novel the council of vocations prescribes jobs to see where people are needed to benefit their brothers (Anthem 22). Next, everything is shared with everyone rather than personal property or the idea of one person having more than the next. For example, in Soviet Russia, Lenin took all farms owned and made them government property. Also, in these societies the government holds all the power from new inventions to basic ideas. Then, in North Korea just like from the book, Anthem, the only information the public hears comes from the government. This creates a closed outlook on the world and only gives one view of society.
