They have received admiration for their duties of protecting and serving the people since the beginning. However due to a few recent scandals, most of the media covers only the negative stories involving law enforcement. As a result, viewers rarely see positive and uplifting occurrences on the news. The overly emphasized negativity causes observers to disregard the good that is still in the world. Viewers begin to assume that the country is a place full of evil rather than good, even in law enforcement. An example of a police officer who is not mentioned in the nightly news anymore is one who displays hard work and dedication. As any officer would say, a cop is never actually off-duty. At any crisis or conflict that requires urgent attention, a police officer is nearly always the first-responder. Furthermore, the 911 emergency service remains available throughout all hours of the day in order to dispatch immediate assistance to a victim in need. Whether there is a crime that needs to be solved or a missing child to be found, a police officer never stops his or her investigation. In past events such as the 9/11 attacks and mass shootings, the police were commended for their bravery and assistance.
