Personal Narrative: Anime

Even though we are siblings, my sister and I have always been seen as two different people that had nothing in common. For a while we did not even believe we were related. She is very into Anime and art while I’m more of the jock. Sports and video games were what I am into. I would hang out with my sister often, and when we did, we would moderately engage in each other’s activities. We would watch a little anime together, we would go outside and play together, I would even sit and watch her draw while we both listened to music. My sister and I were close as children, but as we grew older we drifted apart. However, that would all change. I never thought of doing anything like this let alone expected myself to attend such an event my sister asked …show more content…
Asian Fest is an annual event held every Memorial Day weekend with more than 100,000 visitors. Their mission is to promote the importance of cultural diversity in building a vibrant, prosperous and healthy community. Now I must admit I was a bit skeptical about going. At that moment in time I have never been to an event as culturally diverse as this one. I have watched anime and been to Asian based restaurants but that was as far as I have interacted with the culture. My sister, however was thrilled to be going and was very eager to get there. I knew this because as soon as we parked and was getting our belongings together, she leaped out of the car and was practically running to the …show more content…
There you could buy anything you seen at the cultural displays and booths: traditional clothing, toys, and any other type of accessories you could think of. The marketplace is where the majority of the people were. This is where you could really see the diversity and the different types of people that were there. We sight-seen for a bit, and my mother and sister tried to buy everything they could get their hands on but as you can probably guess my sister eventually bought a kimono and my mother bought one as well along with a purse. Although, I did not buy anything I was still shocked and intrigued by how much fascinating merchandise was there. Yet, after seeing all the different foods they had to offer in the cultural displays, I must admit was quite anxious and ready to eat. After my mother and sister finished their shopping sprees we made our way over to the food court. I am very enthusiastic when it comes to food. So my excitement as we approached the food court was immeasurable. The amount of mouth-watering deliciousness that was waiting just for me was so incredible I drew tears. Seeing what the food court had to offer earlier in our trip left me with high expectations, and they did not disappoint. The food tasted better than I could imagine. My plates were immersed with the diverse, distinctive, and delicious flavors of Asia. My favorite had to have been the Thai food, but The Asian

It was the end of another long school day when I first heard those words. My kindergartener self and my then first grade sister were squabbling in the backseat of our grandmother’s car about something so insignificant that I can’t even recall what it was.
