Females are taught to suppress sexuality and are shamed for showing sexual independence, while males are praised for the same actions which are demonized for the woman. Only males are permitted to get farther in life according to this language. Culturally we chose words which are inherently sexist, and yet people do not see it as an issue. Collectively Americans refer to our presidential candidates as ‘Trump’ and as ‘Hillary.’ The subconscious renaming of a woman in power by her first name instead of her last is proof of the rampant sexism which plagues the society and thus undermines the woman’s authority.
