Rosaura’s ultimate wish is to keep Esperanza by her side for as long as she will live. She doesn’t need Esperanza to be at her beck and call, but she wants to keep her daughter by her side because Esperanza is one of the only people that Rosaura has left. Rosaura makes it her goal to ensure that Esperanza won’t leave her when she, “... Insisted that her daughter shouldn’t be… among the upper class,” (238-239). Rosaura’s ideas of a perfect daughter who can take care of her forever are unfortunately ruined as she dies. Esperanza, Tita, and Pedro all benefit from Rosaura’s death, however, by being free to be able to do whatever they please. Rosaura’s desires of trying to make Esperanza stay by her side didn’t work out, but the outcome is great
