The Role Of Renewable Energy In The United States

Decent Essays
So if we look at what renewable energy looks like in the United States right now it's pretty disappointing. Only about 15% of the U.S runs on renewable energy and the other 85% is nuclear or fossil fuels. But it would be possible for this number to change, as of now Oil only is 1% of energy production which can be easily switched for renewable energy and no one would see the difference. It's when theas percentages get higher is when switch is hard, for example naturals gas produces about 34% of the United States energy. This is a much higher number and would be much more difficult to change but not impossible. Since we already have explained why renewable is far more competitive then any form of fossil fuels it would make sense to switch.

A transition to renewable energy can be difficult for numerous reasons. First we can simple evaluate the scale. The global use of fossil energies were about 1x10^18 joules in 2012, that’s 20 times greater than it was in the 1890s, as coal overtook wood. Generating this much energy with any new source is intimidating, and a significant amount of it will derive from the United…

GLOBAL RENEWABLE ENERGY TARGET The earth is occupied by humans and a diverse range of fauna and flora, as well as extremely microscopic beings that thrive on the earths natural resources. So why isn't renewable (green) energy one of them? The earth gives us a multitude of resources that are being used and destroyed with in years. Nature in it's natural form is resilient and once human interaction intensifies nature is less forgiving.…

In 2014, the US alone used 98.324 quadrillion BTUs of energy. Roughly 82% of that was fossil fuels. Renewable resources accounted for 10%, including solar, wind, hydroelectric, and more, and the remaining 8% was nuclear power. This energy was used to do everything from power our televisions to turn on our lightbulbs. Unfortunately, our reliance on fossil fuels brings with it serious side effects, including global warming.…

Fossil fuels (oil, gas, and coal) have been the pillar of our modern society since the Industrial Revolution. There is no further doubt that fossil fuels have a high density of energy and they are the world’s dominant energy source. Even though these non-renewable resources have a variety of applications like fuel for transportation, electricity, plastic, medicine, and chemicals, they are also the largest emitters of carbon dioxide which causes human health and environmental issues. Every economic aspect the United States depends completely on these fossil fuels. An effective way to address the United States’ fossil fuel dependency is by relying on renewable sources of energy, learning how to conserve energy, recycling and reusing products…

NASA stated in an article “ We stand on the threshhold of a new geological era, one were the climate is very different to the one our ancestors knew”. If humanity continues to burn fossil fuels as it does now, the climate will not return to its former state for tens of thousands of years. However, there is still time to prevent this. By using alternative fuels, such as solar energy, humanity can mitigate the effects of climate change. Solar energy is the cleanest and most abundant alternative fuel because it comes from the sun.…

In the United States, we primarily rely on oil, natural gas, and coal. In 2006 oil accounted for nearly 40% of energy consumption, with coal and natural gas at 23% and 22% respectively. We use fossil fuels and nonrenewable resources for almost all of our energy consumption while we only use about 7% of renewable resources such as solar, geothermal, and hydropower. We are globally the world’s largest energy consumer making up only about 4.6% of the words population but using a huge 25% of the primary global energy. In contrast lesser developed countries used renewable resources such as biomass-water, wood, and cow dung- for their energy consumption, which satisfies a large 40% of their energy…

The widening gap between energy demand and supply has led to power outages, and cause disruption in the economy and development of countries. Despite having abundant renewable energy resources, the sharp growing demand has led to countrywide energy crisis which threatens the economy growth. These challenges require a multi-prong approach that would address both the immediate energy shortage, help to build long-term energy sufficiency and reduce environmental pollution by adopting alternative energy source like biofuel. Therefore, lignocellulosic plant biomass is an essential renewable, environmentally sound and inexpensive energy resource, has great potential as substrate for biofuel production; composite with three biopolymers i.e., cellulose…

This is true at the current moment it cannot. That does not mean that we can not make it reach the demand. The truth that we are not trying hard enough to find out. According to Wharton University, “The United States only gets 13% of its energy from renewable resources where Germany and Denmark get nearly 50% of their energy from renewable energy” (Science). This a lot considering we have only just scratch the surface of what we can do,and the advancements we can make in the future.…
