“Mass media have played and will continue to play a crucial role in the way White Americans perceive African Americans” and other races (Balkaran). That post on the internet may not be racial profiling or have racist intentions, but simply someone trying to make it racist and people believed it was racist. So now there's this video and people to tell people about it so they do and now it's a viral. Now that video of that cop doing his job is everywhere and people are mad about it, so there are protests and racial division in cities just because the media shows one side. The media may not be telling the whole truth either, they can show whatever they want, it doesn't even have to be the full story. “As a result, white America has suffered from a deep uncertainty as to who African-Americans really are” (Balkaran). It could be the news showing a clip of a police officer arresting a black man for breaking the law and there being resistant and the cop having to use force. But the media could show it as the cop using excessive force to arrest man. But there's always going to be people who take it wrong, who take it as a form of racism. Media is a persuasive thing and we all know this. But is it persuading us in a wrong way? The media could be persuading us to think wrong of a certain race of people. “A good example of this is media portrayal of the Los Angeles riot in 1992” (Balkaran). In this time the news showed young black males rioting in the streets and destroying Los Angeles. Now if you were an older generation person back then and seen this it probably made you mad or even racist. Another case would be the Ferguson trials. There are just so many different ways that could make you racist, so why do we just pick one and blame it on that. And it's not just in America and we all know that. “Race matters exist in different places and at different times under widely varying conditions” (Balkaran). Another outrageous theory is that you're born racist. I know what you're thinking that crazy right, but yet there's some people out there that say that actually born racist. It's not like it was way back in the 1900’s where there was segregation and kids grew up seeing other races as minorities. No in this generation people try so hard to bring kids of all races together as one group. “Race has become an institutional part of American Society” (Balkaran). And it really has all threw preschool and elementary school they teach you to be nice to one another no matter their skin tone. As you can see there are many ways that media can influence people to become racist. And its not just the media that influences us but it is a big part of it. So think next time you see that post or that news story if there's another side to the story. Because to every story there's always another side. And it may not be good but also it also may not be bad

In the United States, one of the main leading factors of racism comes from stereotyping African Americans. The mass media seems to continue to execute the way Caucasian Americans portray African Americans as second class citizens through negative activity such as gang violence, drug use, rape, and other forms of behavior. As a result of this problem, this leads a negative impact on the lives of African Americans. With the media, it doesn’t portray significant events in the African American community unless the news shows a negative impact. One example is the Los Angeles riots of 1992. In California, four police officers pulled over an unarmed African American man after he was caught speeding. After a short pursuit, the police believed he was resisting arrest and began to severely beat the man, claiming he was on intoxicated. The video was brought into the media and shown to the public and soon after violence and riots broke out throughout the city. It has been known “police brutality and racial profiling has been a problem” for a while in Los Angeles, “but this was the first time it was caught on tape” (LA Riots ND). During the riots, many buildings and stores were robbed, streets and highways became blocked, and many rioters beat motorists. The four officers involved were charged of “using excessive force” (LA Riots ND). Within the United States, research “has disclosed that most serious crimes” such as homicide, robbery, etc., “in inner cities are committed by a very small proportion of African Americans” (Balkaran 1999).
