My chosen topic is history through sports. I chose this because I thought it would be an interesting topic to find out new things about. I also really enjoy watching sports, so this is a great topic for me because I will remain interested throughout the whole research process. I decided to format my paper in the order I researched it. This way it would be much simpler. It also makes sense to me to put my research on order from decade to decade. I will start by writing about my research on the time period of 1996-2014. I started by looking at the major sports figures of the time. The following is what I found. The major sports heroes of this time period include Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, and Albert Pujols in the MLB, Kobe Bryant, Kevin …show more content…
The following is what I found. Wilt Chamberlain- In 1962 he scored 100 points in a single game. Jim Brown- Helped lead the Browns to an NFL championship in 1964. Muhammad Ali- First boxer to capture the heavyweight championship three times. Bill Russell- Won a total of eleven championship rings. Willie Mays- An incredible baseball player of the time period. Next I looked at race in sports during this time. The following is what I found. In 1968 John Carlos and Tommie Smith raised their fists in the air in the Black Power salute. This gives you an idea of what race in sports looked like at the time, and how racist people were. The 1960s did begin changing the racial prejudice against blacks during this time in athletics. After this I researched influential African Americans of the time. The following is what I found. Marlin Briscoe was an incredible NFL quarterback in the late 60’s. Bob Gibson was an outstanding pitcher in the MLB during this time. Bobo Brazil won the NWA World Heavyweight Title in 1962. Wilma Rudolph became first American woman to win three gold medals in the Olympics. Ernie Davis became first black athlete to win Heisman trophy. Jackie Robinson broke the color
