The peer reviewed journal article I will be doing my case study on is titled, "The Role of Race and Poverty in Access to Foods That Enable Individuals to Adhere to Dietary Guidelines". This journal takes an in depth look at growing obesity and diabetes rates within the United States. I 'm extremely interested in this topic because I 'm going into the health care field as a Health Care System Administrator. In this field I will be dealing with day to day medical situations, especially with the rising health care issues including old age, weight issues, and diabetic problems. The peer reviewed journal article I will be doing my case study on is titled, "The Role of Race and Poverty in Access to Foods That Enable Individuals to Adhere to Dietary Guidelines". This journal takes an in depth look at growing obesity and diabetes rates within the United States. What supermarkets and fast food restaurants were chosen were determined by a special scan statistic. Between 2003 and 2004 audits were conducted in person at every single supermarket and fast food restaurant used in the study. Each place was audited by two researchers. The researchers noted what fruits and vegetables the supermarkets had in stock whether that meant fresh, canned, or frozen. The researchers did not count how many of each item was available, just that it actually was available. When the researchers went to audit the fast food restaurants, they checked the stock and the manager to see what items were truly available off of each individual companies corporate menu.
