The Role Of Presidents In Office

Decent Essays
In the last four years I have become very interested in politics and our government here in the United States. I find that how the government works is very interesting but it is very chaotic. I am very interested with past Presidents and just the position as a whole. I have always wondered how the American people view the Presidents and the office of the President. I find the things that Presidents do tend to have an effect on their position. Such as affairs that the President engages in while in office. It is well known that many Presidents have had affairs while they are in office. Why would the leader of the free world partake in such a scandalous activity? One in particular that I find the most interesting is former President Bill Clinton.

Specifically FDR, who was a hardworking politician that helped liberate the American people from The Great Depression, but in his personal life had always lived a very awkward love life with his cousin/wife, Eleanor, that led to his affair with a couple of women. One in particular was Missy, known as the unofficial First Lady that was technically Roosevelt’s go to wife and right hand. However, there is nothing like President Kennedy and his irresponsible actions that could have caused the U.S. to fall into great danger just because JFK needed a daily dose of sex. His need to be physically intimate affected his duties as President, and hopefully will be the only and last big womanizer to ever be elected as U.S. President. Furthermore, certain topics that were fairly fishy relate to presidents that had been labeled for being homosexuals.…

The President of the United States seems to wield immense power; through executive orders and bill vetoing, it often appears that the president has a disproportionate amount of influence. However, other times, the president appears limited in his influence towards policy. Aaron Wildavsky proposed a Two Presidencies theory, which proposes that the president has significant power in relation to foreign policy, but limited power in relation to domestic policy. In reality, it seems that the president has power and influence, albeit checked by different branches and entities, in all areas of government.…

Executive Privilege is a controversial presidential power that is recognized by the courts but is nowhere mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. Executive Privilege is often used by presidents to hide information that may be incriminating or detrimental to their party or political standing. Many historians and politicians have claimed that executive privilege is not real and question whether it is constitutional for presidents and other members of the executive branch to withhold documents and testimony from congress. As defined in the dictionary, Executive Privilege is the principle that members of the executive branch of government cannot legally be forced to disclose their confidential communications when such disclosure would adversely affect the operations or procedures of the executive branch.…

Most people never actually give this any thought, but the president has a team behind him who helps with his decisions on certain topics his “cabinet.” The president carefully chooses members of his cabinet in order to assist with whatever department they have been appointed to.
