The Role Of Physician Assistants In Canada

Manitoba was the very first province in Canada to create a legislative and governing framework for physician assistants in 1999 (Fréchette and Shrichand 2016, 35). The University of Manitoba introduced in 2008, the first civilian physician assistant training program in Canada (Fréchette and Shrichand 2016, 35). The University of Manitoba is also currently the only graduate program in Canada that offers a master’s of physician assistant studies after completing the 26-month program (Fréchette and Shrichand 2016, 35).
