These services can be those already administered by other professions but still need extra providers. An example of demand driving innovation is immunizations. Pharmacists are not required to administer immunizations however, most pharmacies across the country require their pharmacists to be certified to administer immunization. Services that are specific to the pharmacy field such as MTM services are more difficult to implement because there cannot be demand if people aren’t aware of the services. Pharmacists can create demand for these services by demonstrating the importance of the services and how these services have improved the overall health and well being of the patients. By providing this information to the community and other providers, the awareness will eventually create demand for the services.
It is important to acknowledge that suggesting ideas is not enough to drive change. Pharmacists have to implement these ideas for innovation to take place. They have to be motivated to drive the change because they will experience challenges along the way. In addition, pharmacists need to motivate each other. Some pharmacists, especially the older generation, are compliant for innovation to take place because they do not want to step out of their comfort zone. If many pharmacists do not embrace the change, then the innovation cannot take
