A common sleep disorder that toddlers experience is night terrors. According to Edelman, Kudzma, and Mandle (2014), night terrors are when a child has “frightening dreams that cause the child to sit up in bed, scream, stare at an imaginary object, breathe heavily, perspire, and appear in obvious distress” (pg. 457). During the terror, the child is not awake and they may be inconsolable for up to a period of ten minutes (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014). Afterwards, the child will fall back to sleep quietly. It is imperative to educate parents about night terrors because they can be very frightening when they observe their child having one. As the child continues to develop, the night terrors will decrease in frequency (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle,

To begin this argument, people who enjoy horror films support that watching horror gives them a chance to learn, to experience situations. In an article “The Lure of Horror” published in November 2011, Dr. Christian Jarrett is the Psychologist’s staff journalist mentioned “Movie monsters provide us with the opportunity to see and learn strategies of coping with real- life monsters should we run into them, despite all probabilities to the contrary“. Dr. Jarret explained that horror scenes give people a chance to face with situations that may happen in real life so that people can handle situations or run away instead of standing and screaming. Similarly, Mathias Clasen says, “ That’s where horror can teach us something truly valuable” (Jarrett…

It has been studied and found that co-sleeping can actually reduce a baby’s risk of SIDS. SIDS is an abbreviation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Some causes of SIDS could be heavy bedding, smothering, and some babies just stop breathing in their sleep. Studies have shown that when a baby sleeps with his or her mother they feed off the mother’s stimulation, like breathing patterns. When a mother gets into a sleeping routine with her child the smallest things like her heartbeat, breathing, and close presence stimulates the baby to follow all those same patterns.…

Each time that I had a nightmare I would draw a picture and summarize the contents of the dream.…

Dr. Cortesi et al. found in one study that parents of co-sleepers have a significantly higher level of psychological and couple distress (http://dx.doi.org/10.1080/15402000801952922). In the early 1980s, co-sleeping was also believed to be a contributing factor to poor sleep quality as a child grew older and an interference with parental sex, which although not necessarily formally debunked, has not changed many families’ habits of engaging in bed-sharing (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.smrv.2005.12.001). Infants who sleep with their mothers are generally more prone to greater frequencies of arousals, and thus are easier to wake. Although this means less long bouts of sleeping for the child, it is those very arousals that are considered protective factors for SIDS. Children who suffered incidences of SIDS, are characterized by higher arousal thresholds.…
