Do you get your blue eyes from your mom, and your height from your dad? Where did your love for cleaning come from? A person’s physical characteristics come mainly from genes and heredity, but a person’s genes may not always speak of where their personality came from. One of the most studied fields of psychology is the idea of Nature vs. Nurture. Many studies have determined that both Nature and Nurture have influenced a person’s human growth. As of today, we know that the Nature vs. Nurture debate plays a significant role in human development. “The inborn, innate character of an organism is referred to as Nature” (Psych Student Edition 4, Spencer A. Rathus, pg. 56). The concept of the Nature debate is that a human being is born with genes that influence the traits of a person. Some traits may be hair color, eye color, height, or many other traits.

For example, if a kid is acting out in class, and his or her classmates find it funny, another child could be drawn to the attention given to the other student and may act the same way to draw attention to themselves. The definition of uninvolved parents is that the parents tend to leave their children on their own, making few demands and showing little warmth (Psych Student Edition 4, Spencer A. Rathus, pg. 243). A child that has uninvolved parents could be mentally hurt from the little attention. Uninvolved parents that do not give much love could affect the child’s personality by creating anger and sadness that builds up inside them and make the child act inappropriately.
