Our world is plagued. Plagued with insecurities, ridiculous expectations, and gender roles. These things are reinforced time and time again by different and all forms of media. It has only grown worse in the 21st century with a new myriad of types of media being created and taking control of the minds in our society. Most people attack the visual media that portrays women and men of unattainable physical appearances, but it is not just physical insecurities that society places on people. It is the characteristics and traits expected by these men and women and the roles they’re inherently taught to take on. The book Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James gives out the idea that men have an evil mindset and should dominate and control women. It also gives the idea that women want to be controlled. Even worse, this book was made into a movie that will show even more men this unhealthy relationship and teach them that women want to be controlled and dominated and that men are expected to do so. This could lead to very aggressive and violent behavior when these men enter real world relationships and the woman doesn’t want to be controlled and tries to stand up for herself causing more cases of domestic violence that the men have been brainwashed into thinking is …show more content…
Prominent people in our society need to understand that they set the stage for how a lot of people that look up to them will act. Young minds are often influenced very easily by ideas of what they should be like because they are still very early in the stages of figuring out who they are apart from other people. This type of influence and pressure from others is something that can affect people for their entire life and something that we, as a society, need to learn and get a hold of as soon as possible. There doesn’t need to be another generation of people growing up with these types of festering
