As the science we know today’s advances, many things are being developed. One of these things are advancement of engineered meat. Within the last decade, scientists have been looking for a solution to create meat without it coming directly from animals. Pushing the boundaries of science have also been exhibited in Mary Shelley's book Frankenstein; in this book Shelley gives a theory of bringing a new creature from other parts of a deceased creature. Making lab-produced meat is similar to this in many ways and have some of the same concerns as theorized in Frankenstein. “Why should we create meat from cattle?”, “how would we create it?”, and many other questions are arising from it. Scientists have been disclosing information …show more content…
It raises an alarming question of “how will the government regulate the emerging field of of cellular agriculture”? A question that has yet to be answered, which causes chaos because the first lab-produced meat is targeted to be sold in stores starting in 2017. Animal Rights Expert, Doris Lin, has pronounced that vegans feel that lab-produced meat is still cruel to animals. She also proclaims that scientists would constantly have to create cattle to extract from, which does not decrease the usage of cattle …show more content…
Shelley writes about a scientist named Victor Frankenstein who creates a creature out of human parts. The creature arises and causes a lot of chaos in the society as people reject the idea of production from an already known element. In the story, the creature is constantly beaten, joked about, and verbally abused; although lab-cultured meat is not verbally abused, it is very negatively represented in today’s society. Many feel that nature should not be tamed and if it were to be tamed, many things would become disastrous. Nevertheless, scientists will continue to push the bounds of science. Pushing boundaries have obviously caused controversy on this topic and other topics as well. The evidence of the experiment as a whole can leave a tremendous impact on society, whether it be good or
