•Loneliness is a huge part in this novel. Not only can we see this throughout these 3 characters, but really the entire novel is about a bunch of ranch workers being lonely. Even the name of the place George and Lennie run away from is called Soledad which means lonely in Spanish. The ranch is isolated from all other places so much so, that the bus could not have drove them all the way. Also the workers were very surprised that two guys are traveling together. The boss is even suspicious. One is left to wonder that if George was traveling with someone who was not mentally disabled, would things still end the way that they did.
