Nurse’s education and skill level can range from beginner to advanced diploma to doctorate. Becoming more educated in healthcare management nurses will be able to function effectively in a leadership role. These nurses will learn how to advocate for their staff and patients. They will also learn how work side by side with different disciplines and caregivers to have great patient outcomes and staff satisfaction. Since there has been an increased focus on research and evidence based practice. Nurses in leadership roles needs to know how to obtain research data and how to interpret it. This has made a significant change in the requirement of nurses to become BSN-prepared. IOM is hoping to have an 80 percent by 2020. Nurses need to take personal responsibility for growing personally and professionally. When nurses increase their education this in turn will make them better leaders. Some of the courses required of a bachelorette prepared nurse would help to make a well-rounded leader. Also a nursing residency program would help nurses learn in a hands on environment to become successful leaders. Also the IOM report states the importance of research. They are asking that analysis and data collection teams are built in to all healthcare system to help these systems grow and expand in a real time
