Abstract
Leadership’s role in shaping a healthy organizational climate has many facets. Both leadership and organizational culture are difficult concepts to define, as many researchers have chosen to define each in various ways. For the purposes of this paper, I examine leadership as a process that guides both leaders and followers to a common goal, that being a shared culture that binds the members together in a healthy and productive climate. I present several leadership factors that play an important role in shaping a healthy organizational culture.

These shared qualities are the ties that bind the organization together in a healthy and productive climate. In short, the organizational culture is the framework that governs the customs, courtesies, and interpersonal interactions for organizational members in a manner that provides a healthy and productive environment.
Leadership’s Role in Shaping Organizational Culture Organizational culture encompasses those shared characteristics that create and sustain a healthy and productive environment (Northouse, 2013; Kane-Urrabazo, 2006). Leadership is the process by which individuals influence followers to accomplish a common goal (Northouse, 2013), one of which would be a healthy and productive organizational environment. Logically, then, it follows that leadership plays a significant role in shaping organizational culture and the sustainability of an organization. While many leaders understand the importance of a healthy organizational culture in employee satisfaction, many fail to understand the impact they have in shaping that culture. Consequently, leaders need to understand how factors such as characteristics or traits, skills, styles, crisis management, power, and ethics contribute to the shaping and maintenance of a healthy organizational culture.
