John Proctor was portrayed in the film just like he was in the play. For example, in the movie he was a farmer and a big name in the village just like in the play. I think that his Movie character was better than the play character because he is more of a important figure in the movie than in the play. For example, in the movie he is criticized for committing lechery against Abigail and being a devil worshiper. As where, in the play he is only accused for lechery against Abigail. The purpose of studying the Crucible is to tell readers that in life you have to chose one side or the other you cannot be on both. For example, in the book Abigail had to choose if she was a witch or if she was not, but she had to prove it so she used the other girls
