T-cells respond to the cytokine molecules that are called interleukins via a signaling pathway. Cortisol blocks the T-cells from proliferating in that they prevent some of the T-cells from recognizing interleukin signals. It can also stifle inflammation that is die to inhibition of histamine secretion. Cortisol’s ability to prevent the promulgation of the immune response can render individuals suffering chronic stress that is highly vulnerable to infection (Randall 2012). Cortisol interferes by preventing T-cells from recognizing signals which stops T-cells from multiplying. When under high stress situations it can start a number of bad habits to include; alcohol, tobacco, or possibly drug abuse. As you are aware these types of actions can lead to terrible effects within your immune system. Short and long term habit can be formed and can also lead to behavioral problems as well. I have been in the military for a little over 14 years and I have witnessed firsthand troops with wild and erratic behaviors as well as depression. PTSD is a very real thing, with PTSD it becomes hard to think at times, hard to stay focused and all this stems from crazy events or possible close to death experiences. But one thing I have witnessed is that everybody deals with things differently and in their own way and their own time
