Our world is full of different people with different thoughts and different emotions. Individualism is the main thing in life that each person needs, being equal does not determine a person's identity. If people were equal then a person would have to be another person not himself. As we read the book “Anthem the author Ayn Rand has a purpose for us through the book. An Tang tells us that individuality has been eliminated in the book taking away “I” and replacing it by “We”. Love, freedom, and independence is the most important in most of the people's lives, especially for a person to be able to say “I”. A person should be able to feel free and be themselves, being equal should not mean that each person should think, dress, and be the same person

Equality tries to understand that he can be an individual person not equal to someone and being called as “we”. Since there individualism is taken away from them Equality has the courage to do that. For instance, when equality sits in the tunnel that he and his friend found, he says that there he has time to think and writ in his journal. Equality also says that being alone is forbidden to the people but he doesn't care and continues to sneak into the tunnel. “We wish nothing, save to be alone and to learn….. Strange are the ways of evil…… The nature of our punishment, if it be discovered……. And yet there is no shame in us and no regret…. But we feel no burden upon our spirit and no fear in our heart” (Rand 36-37). In the book equality shows us that being individual is a good thing and it shouldn't be taken away. Equality shows us how he doesn't feel shameful for regretful being alone and breaking the rules. In the book Equality also mentions that he enjoys being alone and hearing himself. Individuality is something to be enjoyed like equality did. Therefore, Equality clearly shows us that individuality should not be taken away. Individualism is something we should be happy about, no one want to be someone else, being an individual a person can succeed in anything in there
