It has always been considered the lesser of the two fields. That stereotyped assumption is the underlying reason why people shy away from arts and related subjects. The most important benefit of humanities is the development of critical thinking skills. “For nearly ninety-five percent of employers, a particular college major matters less than, a demonstrated capacity to think critically, communicate clearly, and solve complex problems” (AACU). The author did a very good job in describing the most lackluster place, indeed the world would be as monochrome as the famous television sets of the nineties. Now, imagine the world without humanities. As much as art is in the eye of the beholder, the humanities equip each person to have a different interpretation. We are able to visualize worlds, create mental images when listening to stories and widen our horizon because we have the innate ability to fantasize. Humanities give pleasure to our thoughts because they help us to truly understand art and appreciate it. Even in the STEM field, without a genuine respect for innovative inventions, inventors may lose inspiration. “The arts and sciences have so much in common that it strikes me as funny when people think the two are at odds with each other.
