Context
Shakespeare’s career began in roughly 1589, but his work from this time period was considered to be not at the level of his later work. During the beginning of Shakespeare’s career, Shakespeare mostly wrote history plays and comedies. Toward the middle of his career, when he wrote, “Much Ado About Nothing,” considered Shakespeare’s best comedy play, thus showing how Shakespeare was becoming a great play writer. “Much Ado About Nothing” was written in 1598, during the middle of Shakespeare’s career, the middle of Shakespeare’s career was where Shakespeare began to hone his craft. Thus, Shakespeare wrote better plays and mastered the different forms of plays, such as comedy, tragedies and histories.

They thought that both Beatrice and Benedict would be too stubborn and wouldn’t come together on their own. In ACT III, Scene I. Leonato’s Garden, Hero plans for Beatrice to overhear her conversation with her hand maids. Hero lies to her maid maids, knowing Beatrice is listening. Hero discuss the love Benedict has for Beatrice. Hero continues to state how Beatrice is incapable of loving someone. Hero states “ she is too disdainful;/I know her spirits are as coy and wild/ As haggerds of the rock.” Hero manipulates Beatrice into believing that she was not worth of Benedict, by using the word “disdainful.” Beatrice is manipulated into beleive Hero. Due to the fact that she wants to prove Hero and the handmaid's wrong. Hero uses the words “coy” and “wild” when describing Beatrice spirits. Beatrice would never try to change herself only for Benedict, instead Beatrice is trying to prove everything assumptions about her wrong. The structure of ACT III, Scene I. Leonato’s Garden is set up that Hero is speaking back and between both her handmaids. Hero being more dramatic to make herself sound more believable to Beatrice. For example, when Hero say “O god of love! I know he doth deserve.” Hero is lying about the fact that Benedict is in love with Beatrice. It was clear in Act I, that Claudio had taken an interest in Hero. Claudio had planned to marry Hero, and was planning to tell Hero’s dad, his intentions on marrying her. Don John, was the bastard brother of Don Pedro. Don John became very upset, when he heard that Claudio wanted to marry Hero, Don John started to make plans on running Claudio’s intentions of marrying Hero. On the Mask Ball, with the help of Don John’s slave Borachio, Don John began telling Claudio that Don Pedro wanted to marry Hero, when his attempts to shift Claudio’s attraction failed, Don John began using another form of deception. In SCENE II. ACT A room in LEONATO'S house, Don John started to make Claudio believe that Hero was a “whore.” Don Jon begins by telling Claudio that Hero is “disloyal,” once Don Jon realizes it’s working, he then says “The word is too good to paint out her wickedness;/ I could say she were worse: think you of a worse/ title, and I will fit her to it.” Don Jon also uses the words “worse title, and it will fit her,” to persuade Claudio into thinking that Hero is a whore. Don Jon uses the word “wickedness” to give Hero a dark representation. He is also making her sound like she is evil. The impact on Don Jon dark words, makes Claudio believe that Hero is a whore.
