The first key ghost that Odysseus speaks with IS Teiresias, the famous prophet. Teiresias wastes no time and gets straight to the point. He reveals to Odysseus that he and his men are suffering because they angered Poseidon when they blinded his son, Polyphemus (188). Teiresias even goes on to tell Odysseus of his fate. He informs Odysseus that he will eventually return to Ithaca, and that he will slay all of the suitors and reclaim his wife (188). Teiresias also provides Odysseus with key instructions. He instructs Odysseus not to eat the cattle of Helios (188), and to make a trip and make sacrifices in order to appease Poseidon after he arrives in Ithaca (189). Overall, we can see that Teiresias provides Odysseus with a great amount of information; this IS information that will definitely come in handy for our hero as he continues his adventure. …show more content…

Sadly, Odysseus learns from his mother that she died because she grieved heavily as she awaited his return (191). This scene struck me very hard, especially when Odysseus tries to embrace his mother but cannot, due to her ghost-like form
