Despite the amount of nursing students graduating from universities across the nation yearly, the demand for skilled labor still exceeds what is available. One may think that the nursing shortage allows for job security and open opportunity as there will always be a need for nurses. While this thought-process does hold some truth, some opportunities come with a consequence. The consequence for the nursing shortage is twofold and affects everyone it touches. To begin, it affects nurses. As a result of the nursing shortage, nurses are getting burnt out from working longer hours and more days (Nardi & Gyurko, 2013). This causes fatigue, increased stress, and overall job dissatisfaction. Due to these working conditions, there is an increased risk for injury, drug miscalculation, and medical errors (Littlejohn & et. al, 2012). More importantly, there is lack of patient-centered
