Gothic literature could’ve served the purpose to release the built up emotion of the author. Since writing has always been an escape for people for centuries to their problems. The ability to create a new world or to write about emotion and someone else aside from the author feeling that emotion causes a lot of joy to many. Although some of the work can be dark and melancholy, the author themselves could have had a moment of relief and sanctuary. A way to get rid of all the bad emotions causing your life sadness instead of going through a big depression could’ve been the biggest motive to start writing.
