Drug laws were created to control the way people handle drugs whether that be the use, ownership or manufacturing. Different states have different laws set to which drugs are legal or illegal. The U.S has pretty strict laws against narcotics compared to the other two countries especially Mexico. There are programs in the U.S that help people educate about drugs for example the program D.A.R.E which focus on educating elementary, middle school and high school. The education level in the United States is pretty high 80% of the U.S population has graduated from high school. Next, we will discuss the United Kingdom. Just like the U.S the U.K has many laws and programs when it comes to drugs and drug abuse to help with drug addiction. One of the reason people get so hooked on drugs is because they don’t know enough about the substance they are putting in their bodies or the effects it can have in the long run. Many narcotics have different addiction levels, psychological dependence and physical dependence. There should be more programs that go out an inform younger and older adults about the dangers of drugs and drug addictions. They should inform them about the different levels of addiction and dependency especially physical dependency. That every drug is different and affects people differently. Another way to help treat drugs effectively would be do make drug rehabilitation cheaper and more accessible. The rates for rehab differ depending on the place and some insurance covers some rehabilitation but there are plenty of people out there who don’t have money nor insurance. Everyone should have the same opportunity on getting better. According to U.S News " An estimated 80 to 90 percent of individuals who could benefit from treatment are not getting it" (U.S News,2018).
