Desdemona's Role In Othello

Desdemona represents a character who inadvertently found herself in the middle of Iago’s evil plot. As a result the actions taken by Desdemona throughout the story rests in the fate of Othello’s hands.

In his play “Othello”, William Shakespeare evolves the setting around Venice in the 1500’s. Consequently Venice in Shakespeare’s play was once ruled by a Moor named Othello. Othello, a black man, was seen as a valuable war hero by his citizens including a future Psychopath named Iago. Iago soon becomes mad about having been snubbed by “A guy who knows more about numbers then fighting” for the lieutenant job. Since Othello hired Michael Cassio as his lieutenant and not Iago, Iago teams up with his friend Roderigo to go wake up Brabantio, the

Subsequently Iago leaves the scene under the impression he has tricked Othello into questioning the decision he made to marry Desdemona in the first place. Dealing with a headache in wake of Desdemona’s news that the “nobles of Cyprus whom he invited to dinner are waiting for him”, Othello declines his head to be wrapped up with Desdemona 's handkerchief as it is “too little”. While watching the handkerchief fall on the floor and Desdemona escorting Othello to dinner, Emilia picks up the handkerchief due to her “stubborn husband” has been asking her for over a hundred times now to get Desdemona 's prized possession for him. After Iago receives the handkerchief, he sneaks into Cassio’s bedroom ands leaves it there so Othello can see “honest” Iago was right about Desdemona having an affair on him. Likewise when Othello finds out Cassio is running around Cyprus with a handkerchief that looks like Desdemona’s, he summons for Desdemona to “lend him the handkerchief”. Before Othello can correctly process Desdemona’s words “I don 't have it with me”, raged Othello postpones Desdemona 's conversation’s about Cassio getting the Lieutenant job back until he has talked with Cassio Meanwhile as Cassio waits to talk with Othello, he sees his wife Bianca and politely asks, “will you copy the embroidery for me?” Suddenly after Bianca leaves Cassio, Cassio walks straight into Othello’s and Iago 's conversation. Following Cassio’s “laughing” statements made about Bianca, Othello has become brain washed by Iago. As a result Othell has plans for him to strangle Desdemona in bed, and leave Iago to kill Cassio. One evening Othello motions Desdemona to go get ready for bed as she finished eating. Emilia pursues to follow Desdemona to her room where she sees Desdemona praying and singing two verses of the “Willow” Song . Once Othello steps into
