Each of the main characters in Much Ado About Nothing are victims of deception. Although, the focus of deception is on Claudio and destroying his relationship with Hero, it is also being directed towards Beatrice and Bendeick. Nearly, every character is involved with breaking up Claudio’s relationship with Hero and bringing together Bendeick and Beatrice. The main character that played the role of “ trickery and deceit” was Don John. Don John was a very evil man, his purpose was to break up Claudio and Hero. In which, he succeeded.

While the role they played may not be as bad as the role Don John played it is still dishonest. Their plan consisted of getting Beatrice and Benedick together. They planned to make Beatrice and Benedick think they were in love with the one another. Both group of genders staged a conversation about how the opposite was desperately in love with them.
In act 2, the gentlemen went to the garden where they knew Benedick was hiding out. “By my troth, my lord, I cannot tell what to think of it but that she loves him with an enraged affection; it is past the infinite of thought,” (2.3.51-52). by this Leonato meant that Beatrice is madly in love with Benedick. Saying these words knowing Benedick is listening and would soon look at Beatrice as a wife.Hero, Ursula and Margaret, proceeded to do the same to Beatrice. A staged conversation between these ladies took place. In act 3 Hero states, “ But I persuaded them, if they lov’d Benedick, to wish him wrestle with affection, and never to let Beatrice know of it.” (3.1.41-43).
