In the first section of the Book Thief we are introduced to Death as the unconventional, omniscient narrator of The Book Thief. The novel immediately tell us that the story will mix elements of fantasy with historical fact. Death is a very interesting and different narrator compared to most books where the narrator would usually be more of a human like character, but, Death as a character is something that no one has ever really done. Rather than being stereotypically grim or creepy, Death presents himself as sensitive, and and more regretful about his line of work. Death also lets us know that he isn't a harsh person, and actually has feelings for the souls he collects, and the humans left behind. We only learn a little bit about him in this
