Cyrus Trask didn't seem like a stable man after his time in war, but not like he had PTSD. Afterwards it seemed to me that he had changed from his old wild self to a permanent soldier even with his children. “Mr. Polk’s War,” a war promptly named after the president at the time, James T. Polk, is an alternate moniker for the Mexican-American War for many reasons. For one, looking on the outside, the causes of the war seem to be unjust in that the Manifest Destiny, a widely supported policy by Polk, prompted America’s push West and eventual annexation of Texas from Mexico. Less than a year later, 2LT Grant found himself in the Battle of Palo Alto, and the battle forever shaped his command style, leadership philosophy, and approach to land warfare and how he led his troops.…

King Philips War was the last Native American attempt to push off the invading whites from America. Their efforts were left in vain; however, it did inflate the most destruction on a white population in American history. The Native Americans problems and reasons for getting rid of the colonists were based from the lack of land, since more settlers kept pouring into their region, and competition for resources needed for survival. Nevertheless, the biggest problem, and what I believe became the ultimate reason for the war, was the Puritans earnest attempt to convert Native Americans into Christianity. New England established 14 praying towns where Native Americans could live, but under certain stipulations, they had to become essentially English.…

The novel The Wars by Timothy Findley presents the reader with many normative assumptions that can be recognized as troubling. From the passage above an example of this would be masculinity and heroism.
