The Role Of Credibility In Business

Credibility is extremely important in any business. If you do not have credibility you may have initial success, however you will not maintain a loyal customer base. The formula for credibility is having favorable competence, caring, and character (Cardon, 2013). If we are able to show the formula of credibility in all aspects of business, we will be able to maintain a successful business and customer base. First of all, you do have to show that you have a high level of competence. To do this, you have to show proof that you are not only able to complete a task, but you have a high level of work. If you have a manager requesting you to complete a project, taking ownership of the work is a start. After you take ownership, being about to complete the task with a high level of work and on time will establish the credibility that is needed to move on to the next level, which is caring. When you think of caring, you may think of emotions. You do not always have to associate emotions with caring, but showing compassion does show that you care. If you have a good reputation of always keeping your word and doing what you say you will do, you can maintain good relationships and trustworthiness (Cardon, 2013). You not only have to maintain a high character role model at work, but also in your life. It would be extremely difficult to try to maintain a worthy character at work, then turn around and do the opposite in your personal life. If you are in any type of business, how you act at work and home can be considered one in the same. If you have a high level of competence at work, but when you are outside of work you stiff someone for a bill that can resurface in your job. There is many ways of getting that information around and maintaining transparency is essential.
