With all the changes that have been recently made in healthcare, including how it is delivered to the general public, organizations and businesses are searching for better, more effective means of healthcare delivery. Challenges such as preventative care, healthcare accessibility, healthcare system abuse, and the need to reduce hospital readmissions are being examined for possible solutions. One of the solutions they discovered is the use of Community Paramedicine and Community Paramedics.
Community Paramedicine is defined as,
“An organized system of services, based on local need, which are provided by EMTs and Paramedics integrated into the local or regional health care system and overseen by emergency and primary care physicians. …show more content…
This has been seen in many different disciplines. In 2014, Payscale.com found the mean salary for an Associate’s degree level Registered Nurse (RN) was $66,000 while those who hold a Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) had a mean salary of $75,000 (Nurse Journal, 2016). In the same report, of all the nursing jobs in the United States, the RN was eligible for 51% or them while the BSN was eligible for 88%. It would stand to reason in this new and growing field of Community Paramedicine, the trend of increased wages would continue. With the expansion and increased need for the CPP, the need for Community Paramedics will become more pronounced. The field of EMS is growing rapidly and the CPPs are helping with that trend. Between 2014- 2024 the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts an increase in job growth rate of 24%, in contrast to the growth rate for all occupations which is 7% (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015). The initial data from the programs that have been created and working for several years has been mostly positive. Hospital readmission rates have been decreased as well as a decrease in frequent 911 callers. This data will prove and drive the need for more CPPs and therefore the employment trends for the Community
