Colorism is defined as prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group. Colorism within the black community has been a serious emotional and psychological battle. An internalization of the degradation of what it means to be black in America. This concept of colorism is not only limited to African Americans and the black culture, it effecting different parts of the world as well. The hierarchy of colorism has been a growing concept everywhere. From light skinned, brown skinned, dark skinned,, even black has divided and separated people of color throughout the world.
