The Role Of Bridget In The Power Hour

Improved Essays
A bright and motivated student, it is a great pleasure having Bridget in class this year. A hardworking student, it is very important for Bridget to do what is expected of her, and as a result, she does not hesitate to ask for clarification when she does not understand something. As new concepts do not always come easy to her, she works best when assignments are broken down into small steps and modeled for her. Although she works slow and steady on all of her class assignments, she puts careful thought into all of her work, handing in assignments that are neat, organized and demonstrate a solid understanding of the concept. An attentive listener during all class discussions, and an occasional participant, it would be nice to see Bridget volunteer to participate more without being prompted by her teacher. She does best when given an opportunity to turn and talk to her partner before sharing with the whole class, as this gives her time to formulate a response and receive validation from a peer. …show more content…
She demonstrates a solid understanding of the plot of her texts, but is still working on strengthening her higher level comprehension skills. While her daily adhesive notes and weekly reading responses reveal a very conscious effort to apply the reading skills and strategies taught in class to her independent reading, she is still working on solidifying her understanding of certain concepts. Her visits to Power Hour are beneficial, where she is working on generating and developing strong theories about her characters, as well as identifying and developing some of the larger themes in her story. She is encouraged to continue to use the reading bookmark provided to help assist her while reading on her

At the end of every chapter in the novel Page After Page, by Heather Sellers, there are little exercises/practices sets up that the reader can do. For example, at the end of chapter fourteen Sellers asks the reader to just sit at the computer and write for fifteen minutes, ignoring every grammar and spelling rule.…

Reading is important for both kids and adults because it will help us with many things such as improving our imaginations, help us focus and concentrate, and it will help us relieve stress. 12th Grade – AP English Literature: The AP English Literature curriculum involves a rigorous reading and writing schedule designed to reflect the amount of work students would experience in a college literature class. Over the course of the first quarter students read and studied poetry and short stories. There was a test on each genre, requiring students to practice thinking critically about literature and writing analysis in a timed setting. Selected poems covered British and American authors from the 1700s to the present.…

I have to be honest and say this assessment made me read the story a few times. Every time I reread the story I had to try to see another character point of view. I had to imagine what the back story was, what is not being said, what is the true meaning of each word being written and spoken in the story. Here are a few things that caught my attention.…

Explain how a student's personal learning could be extended by using the Four Resources (4R) model of literacy as applied to Leon's story, but within one selected approach. As applied to Leon’s story, a student’s personal learning could be extended by using the reader response approach. This approach stood out to me as, it is the only approach that focuses on “inserting the reader into the text” (Botelho & Rudman, 2009, pg. 28). Code breaker “Code breaking is learned as children engage with text analysis.…

In her article “Readers’ advisory and underestimated roles of escapist reading,” Soheli Begum explains the benefits in escapist reading, and how many misunderstand and misinterpret the role it has. While escapist reading is seen as something that should be prohibited, it in fact, has a use in many scenarios. For example: those within the military who seek to escape into a world where there is no violence, blood-shed or grotesque scenes, may seek to read novels that have no war within them. While others may seek the gory context as they wish to experience the thrill and anticipation of violent scenes.…

English is like a skill, it is a necessary class, all students must take in order for them to advance in their writing, vocabulary, and speech. As a young child, I struggled immensely in my English classes, but ever since I made the decision to come to Infinity Early College High School I have excelled in every category there is in English. I’ve learned many beneficial things throughout this semester, starting from things like analysing a book to creating my own hero’s journey story and even having a structured debate. As I read the book I was assigned to do as a summer project named “ The Secret Life of Bees,” I realized I had been missing out on the meaning behind each book I had ever read.…

The last few weeks of the semester were the most interesting for my class, and in many ways the most active. I learned more about my students in the last few classes than I had the rest of the semester. While both my instructor and I agree that the class was one of the most unenthusiastic we had ever been a part of, we are both satisfied that the students earned the grades they received, and that we helped them along their career path. We encountered two major problems in the class this semester. First, and perhaps the one more easily fixable, a communication problem.…
