Atticus is a good father because throughout the book you can see him constantly protecting Jem and Scout. During the trial Atticus taught Jem and Scout to protect those who are innocent. This is protection because it teaches Jem and Scout that the right thing doesn’t mean the easiest thing. One example is when Jem killed Bob Ewell Atticus wouldn’t let the sheriff say that Bob fell on the knife because Atticus knew Jem needed his actions to have the appropriate actions. This is shown greatly in this book during the trial with Tom Robinson. Atticus sees everyone as equal, Black or White, and thinking this is very out of the ordinary. It was so irregular for someone to think this that Jem and Scout got made fun of at school for this but nothing stopped Atticus to try and prove this black man’s innocence. He said "You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view, until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.". He said this meaning that there is no better way to get to understand someone until you see what their life experiences and past is like.
