Societies are aging which means that the population of the older increases which let the portion of them out of total population rises. According to WHO elderly people are usually referred the people who are above 65. Especially, Korea is catching up the near country Japan which is stable aging society that has become stabilized with the large portion of elderly people. Besides, the United States also experiencing the aging society between 2012 and 2050 (Ortman). Older population that is greater than 14% is called aged-society, and greater than 21% is called super-aged society. The problem of this phenomenon is that it is happening too fast in certain country regardless its improved medical infrastructure, welfare policies, individual economy. Also, rapid changes led the elderly people get used to the society where they should belong to. It has become a social issue, and the government and personal consideration started to …show more content…
First of all, individualism produces the indifference toward the older, and church provides the opportunities for elderly people to join in the Christian activities. Also, church develops the chance for people to interact as a member in the society. Furthermore, church provides several programs for the older people who are left under the poor condition so that it leads the healthier society.
Thus, followings are the solutions how to solve the aged society issue from the Functionalist perspective; 1) elderly people should improve their adaptability through the church. 2) To prepare their old age life, the older should find the system and facilities and function in the Christian society. 3) Church should find a way to educate the older through their roles. 4) Improve the part of roles which can be used simultaneously both the church and elderly people, and contribute the system to the society in a good
