A Registered Nurse is a health care professional who is an advocate for patients. A nurse does not only make sure that a patient is physically and emotionally well, but they also order and receive lab tests as ordered by the patients’ doctors and monitor their prescribed medications. A nurse also has to maintain patients’ records, which is known as charting. Medical charts have all of a patient’s medical health history, including lab results, prescribed medication or past interaction with other health professionals. They can educate their patients about their health and at home care. In addition, registered nurses are able to help physicians with examinations and assist during surgery.
