The IAB, Or Internet Architecture Board

The IAB, or Internet Architecture Board, is a group of appointed group leaders and volunteers who all come together to create and fine tune ideas that could be put in place to help manage Internet protocols and oversee those protocols and procedures. Since the board has more volunteers than actual nominated members, the group is made up of people with a general knowledge of the Internet and its functions rather than people who specialize in the knowledge. However, this group actually manages and distributes those numbers to the Internet operating systems from Canada to the Caribbean. The page arin.net says that the services that ARIN provides can be, “grouped in four areas: Registration, Organization, Policy Development, and Technical.” Registration is how ARIN distributes IP addresses and ASN allocations. Also, it manages reverse DNS and routing information. Organization has to do with its inner corporation; ARIN considers who will the volunteer group members elect for the board of trustees, when to hold group meetings, and how to train others to be part of ARIN. The policy development also deals with ARIN in terms that the policies made try to manage the members of ARIN. Lastly, ARIN creates technical services to better help the Internet like security for DNS or even the Internet routing registry (IRR). Overall, as IANA helps to maintain and regulate IP addresses, ARIN creates them. I do think that ARIN is successful in its pursuit to keep creating new IP addresses and ASN’s, especially because all the URL addresses always work. I also think they are successful in finding out information on people’s devices because the home page of the website I visited told me my IP address, and later told me what handle my iPad was, what ISP I used, etc.
