1. The Rogerian argument came from American psychologist Carl Rogers. He came to a conclusion that once his patients had an idea or argument, they stuck to it, and it was hard for him to change their thought through a rational argument. His theory to influence his patient’s train of thought was by trying to figure out how to drain the conflict in order to influence their attitudes. His work was so relevant that it was used and spread from regions including South Africa and Northern Ireland. In other words Roger’ Theory was known as a “restatement” or “saying back”. This may take more than one paragraph. Within these paragraphs the writer needs the stress both sides of the argument. Following the introduction the writer must accommodate to the reader’s views of the problem in a non-bias language. Even though the writer and the reader are not on the same side the writer must describe their views in which there is validation of the reader’s view. For example, the writer’s argument may be that all children must attend public schooling to interact with other children. The reader’s point may be that not children are able to handle public schooling because homeschooling that one child is the main focus and that way they learn fast and effective. After the writer has developed the thoughts of the reader’s side, next section is all about the writer. This part required for a neutral, non-emotional language. His or her points need to be valid. A conclusion must be written to finish off the paper, the whole propose of this paper is to get the reader to consider the thoughts of the writer and switch over the position of the writer. When is comes the writing a research paper the usage of scholarly sources makes the thoughts and views of the writer more effective and relevant. That is why they are so important to academic research. There are many ways to distinguish the difference of a scholarly and non-scholarly. They both have different characteristics. The qualities of a scholarly article are that they include a bibliography or reference page, names the author(s), an abstract at the beginning the paper, there are no pictures or any graphics included, most importantly these types of articles are written by a scholar or professional in the field of study. There are a few places where you find scholarly articles, they are often found through databases, libraries, or even the search engine Goggle scholar. When it comes to ODU’s database, everything is not scholarly. The researcher must use the Academic Search Complete engine to refine the results. That way whatever topic they type in, scholarly article can be pulled up. On the other hand if an article was not written by a scholar or professional in the field of study then the article is label as a non-scholarly article. Wikipedia is a website where you can find these types of articles, they are based off research that are supported by opinions and may not be true. This type of website is not a reliable source. Besides it not being written by a scholar or a professional, some qualities include that the paper was written to a general audience, does not
