Abstract
The history of the Rockefeller family begins with the marriage of two opposing families. The marriage of Eliza Davison and called "Devil Bill" Rockefeller was a union between the faith of a young oil salesman sagas. From this union was born John D. Rockefeller who started the growth of the wealth of the family. John created a bad family reputation between their competitors of their competitors. His son John D. Jr. was the one who was devoted to restore the name and reputation of the family. One of five children, Nelson, who was once again damaged the reputation of the family before public opinion. Jr. found a way to correct the past of your family without going against his father. Jr remanded thousands of dollars and dedicated to have a blameless respectability to their six children. John D. III was philanthropist and expert in affairs of asia. Laurance was a capitalist and conservative leader. Nelson was four times Governor of New York and Vice-President of the United States. David, was chairman of Chase Manhattan Bank. Winthrop was elected governor of Arkansas and Abby was involved in research for cancer. The Rockefeller family transformed America building institutions that later will define the 20th century. Places like the Rockefeller Center built in 1930 giving to New York a new vision of art. (Rockefeller Center | The History of Rockefeller Center, n.d.),the Museum of Modern Art also called MOMA in New York which it is considered one of the institutions with the greatest contribution to art allowing to observe around 150 years of works created by man. This museum was created by Abby Rockefeller and two of her friends Lillie P. Bliss and Mary Quinn Sullivan and others are one of the biggest contribution through time of the Rockefeller family. The Rockefeller Center is the heart of the Art Deco and sculptures that transformed the abstract concepts between the 1920s and the 1930s. The man inspiration and combination of science with the application of commercial products make of The Rockefeller Center a new vision of art. The Rockefeller Center was John D. Rockefeller Jr. creations and his vision of having city inside a city give a different magnitude in the way the Rockefeller Center structure was built. The Rockefeller Center was a point of different transitions for the family from to have a completely control to a 20% of the organization due to financial disaster. The Rockefeller Center has sculptures of art around the building giving the touch of decoration enough to be attractive to visitors so the Art Deco was present. The Art Deco was demonstrating that objects could be well made and attractive. There are fourteen locations representing the art thru the Rockefeller Center and Prometheus is one of the most visited in N.Y. The original model of the Prometheus by Paul Manship is made of bronze with the final touch of his sculpture on 24k gold. Up to days date, there is only four of their kind, one is located in the Minnesota Museum of Art, another in the Smithsonian Institute and two in private
