The Rock Brook School, in Skillman, NJ, is a private, non-profit school for Communication Impaired and Multiply Disabled children, from age 3 through age 21. Rock Brook School is approved by the New Jersey State Department of Education and received accreditation from the (MSCES). There are approximately 50 students from 25 different school districts in central New Jersey. In most cases, the home school district will pay tuition, if placement is approved through the IEP (The 'Individualized Education Program). The program runs from 8:45 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The school year is from September through June, with an Extended Year Program available for six weeks beginning in July. An Aftercare Program is also available which is paid for by parents.
On Wednesday, September 21, 2016, I had the opportunity to meet with Mary Caterson, the Director of the school for a site visit meeting. Her credentials include being a licensed speech pathologist and certified principal. Ms Caterson has been an integral part of the school for over twenty-nine years. The school has achieved successful growth for over forty years with its commitment to educating children with special needs and their families. She expressed that the school has demonstrated best practices to the special education community and continues its reputation of quality education providing supports and ensuring success.
