1. The first poem that comes to mind in this open question about image and poet 's purpose is The Road Not Taken By Robert Frost. This poem stands out to me because it has been one of my favorite poems for many years. I appreciate Frost for his imagery and the broad concepts he uses that allow interpretation of the poem in multiple ways. Throughout the poem Frost is describing the setting of the poem, so imagery plays an important role. "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-I took the one less traveled by, and that made all the difference.” The imagery of the two different paths allows readers to understand why the narrator is so indecisive on which one to take, and how just one simple decision can change your destiny in life. I think the purpose of Frost writing this poem is to present a message that can be applied to day to day life. I interpret the message, as Frost telling us it’s okay not to follow the ways of this world. The world has this "picture" of how life should be, or how we should be, and it’s okay not to follow it. That it’s okay to create your own image and your own destiny that does not conform to the world. "The one less traveled by" may be harder at times, but it will be worth it.
2. The Yellow Wallpaper By Charlotte Perkins Gilman because has a lot of symbolism throughout the short story. The yellow wallpaper symbolizes this domestic lifestyle that so many women were trapped in during that time period. It symbolizes the narrator feeling trapped because of the structure, culture, and tradition she was surrounded by. The narrator just wants to be able to freely express herself. The woman breaking free from behind the wallpaper is symbolic because it represents the narrator and other women breaking away from societal norms. The baby is symbolic because it represents a mental illness the

Mendacity is defined as untruthfulness, a lie, or lack of dishonesty. Mendacity acts as theme throughout Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire. In Cat on a Hot Tin Roof mendacity is a major theme, and we see it throughout the play. The characters will lie, twist, and ignore the truth in order to fit be compliant with society 's expectations. An example found in the play is when Maggie announces she is pregnant (which is a lie) as scheme she and her husband planned, so they would be guaranteed part of Big Daddy 's estate when he dies. Another act of mendacity is Maggie hides the truth from Brick about what happened between her and Skipper. It wasn’t until later on in the play that she came clean about what really happened. Big Mama is also lying to herself daily. The cruel things Big Daddy says to her are not jokes he’s being serious. In "A Streetcar Named Desire" mendacity is seen all throughout the text as well. Blanche is lying to avoid telling people the real reason why she is unstable and why she has ended up where she is. Stella lies in order to protect others. Stella also chooses to ignore the truths about Stanley, which means she 's lying to

Robert Frost Robert Frost, most famous for such works as “The Road Not Taken” and “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening,” inspired the world with his poetry. Born on March 26, 1874, to William Prescott Frost Jr. and Isabelle Modie Frost, Robert Frost lived in San Francisco for the first eleven years of his life. His mother introduced him to Shakespeare and other similar literature at an early age, instilling in him an early passion for reading and learning.…

both roads are almost the same, as the poem states in lines three through four on stanza two “Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. ”this shows a feeling of dullness, as neither road are majorly different , though the narrator bases his choice on the adventures that lie within. This shows that the narrator is in a mere guessing game, where he may be filled with adventure, dullness, or something in between those two. In the end of the poem, the narrator states “I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” We unfortunately do not know the adventures that lay ahead of the narrator on that road, but in a way, this is how your choices can and will affect the kind of life you have, or what adventures you will encounter in…

What are symbols? “Symbols are the imaginative signposts of life,” (Asquith). In other words, they represent ideas and qualities that the author chose to collaborate with their story. Without symbols, today's novels would be nothing but words on a page. The Yellow wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman, has long been considered one of the most psychological and symbolic texts ever written. The way Jane 's character is treated in her marriage reflects the way Gilman felt she was treated by her husband. It 's a piece, that is written by a feminist, meant to show readers what oppression of women was like at the time.…

Frost’s poem is a personal, almost romantic telling of his own experiences. The inspiration for “The Road Not Taken” seems to have originated as a jest towards close friend, and fellow poet; Edward Thomas. When Frost and Thomas lived in Gloucestershire; they took daily walks through the countryside. Thomas in an attempt to show his American friend rare plants or a great view; would choose different routes each day. However, Thomas would never be fully satisfied with the path he chose, and would habitually fuss over his unchangeable choice.…

Robert Frost’s poem “Out, Out--“ appears to be, on the surface, about a young boy who, while working, cuts his hand with a saw and dies. When delving deeper into the poem it seems to be about death. Death comes for everyone, young and old, and it is often sudden and lacking reason. The narrator is originally very involved and emotional in the poem, but in the end becomes very detached.…
